Streak Boxshot

Streak is a remake of scratch by MIT. The modifications were written by Billy Graydon. The current version, 0.1, contains many new features and blocks. The first version, v(1.3)0.0beta was released to the public on Jan 7, 2009. It was, however, pulled off the web soon after a major bug was discovered. V(1.3.1)0.1beta was in the making, and is expected to be released around the beginning of April, 2009. Details of what is in all versions, and what will be out soon, are here.

I will be away for all of august, so there will be no development of Streak during that time. The streak forums now have two moderators: Chazmaniendevel, and Acid. Certain features of the site have also been disabled, such as the minimesseger. I will be back by September, at which point streak will be up and running again. Note that also I will not be able to check the email. The moderators may, but it's best to hold onto those questions until September. Until then, have a good rest of your summer, and keep it up with Streak!
Introducing the Streak transcript: This is a webpage on the Streak site designed to help streak users stay connected with Streak's development. It can be found here, and details in a simple numbered list format what is being worked on in Streak! It shows the date of last update for each item, an icon representing planned, in development, in beta, or finished, as well as a description of the update. Check it out!
Oh, wow. Scratch 1.4 is out, and there is so much I have to say about it. To begin, it is awesome. Below is a bit of a list of things that are new:
New interface
This is the first to strike one's eye. It still holds up to the scratch 'theme,' but it is a change I will need to adjust to. A lot. And some things I am not too crazy about:
  • No more extras. I rather liked that button. All of it's functions are now scattered about the other buttons.
  • The language, save, and share buttons are now icons.
  • There is now an edit menu.
  • No more undo button. That one was a lifesaver for me a couple of times. It is now the 'undelete option in the edit menu.
  • This one's big: The screen now goes into a half size mode. This preserves screen space, and leaves more room for scripting!
  • The Green flag and stop buttons are now rather small.
  • There are many more cosmetic changes.
New blocks
  • There are 3 new string manipulation blocks: (join [][]), (length of []) and (character at () of []).
  • There is now a block to ask the user a question, and then get the answer.
Renamed Category
Due to the aforementioned, the numbers category is now operators.

One of my main goals with streak is to inspire others to continue on with programming, beyond streak. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to make tutorials about how certain aspects of streak were made. Please reply as to what other tutorials you might want. Of coarse, if you just want to use streak, also reply as to any features, blocks, capabilities, etc., that you would like to see in streak soon. Below, it will show randomly one of the tutorials. Once you've done one, you can keep reloading until you get to the other. Also, remember, keep sending in suggestions.

Blocks, blocks and more Blocks...

Whenever I ask for suggestions for streak, I almost always receive those for new blocks. However, there are a whole range of other possibilities for Streak. An example is how v(1.3)0.0 had a total of 20 major changes, yet only 2 were new blocks. Or how chirp is based entirely on non block related updates. Personally, I think that there should be many new blocks- but other things, too. Join the debate in the new BLOCK DEBATE forum thread, and also post non block-related suggestions in the NON BLOCK SUGGESTIONS forum thread. However, of course, there are still plenty of new blocks to come, so keep a lookout for v(1.3.1)0.2!
